Cairns Northern Beaches
The beaches stretching along the northern coastline near Cairns are known as the
Cairns Northern Beaches. They are popular with locals and tourist alike, providing a chance to enjoy the tropical weather while relaxing in a sea breeze. The beaches are very reminisecent of any tropical holiday destination, with palm-fringed beaches facing sheletered coves or the Coral Sea.
Public Transport
Public transport runs to the beaches from Cairns city regularly, and a number of the accommodation providers and local tour operators also offer transfers. The Northern Beaches are becoming increasingly popular with travellers, because of the proximity to all the key attractions, and the suitability for singles, couples, families and groups alike.
The Cairns Northern Beaches are made up of :Machans Beach
The closest beach to Cairns itself, and is mainly local residents (limited established holiday infrastructure or services)
Holloways Beach
The next beach north heading toward Port Douglas from Cairns, Holloways is mainly local residential, and offers typical tropical lifestyle and stinger net enclosure on the local beach
Yorkeys Knob
Quite an established locale including the local Yacht Club / marina which is popular with locals, but Yorkeys is a mix of residential and tourist accommodation. The area is more popular for the marina facilities and golf club than the beach.
Trinity Beach
Clearly our favourite beach in the region, Trinity Beach offers a relaxed mix of high quality holiday accommodation, local residents and a great array of eateries and local small shops. Trinity Beach is centrally located on the coastline, making it perfect as a base for sightseeing, or simply a permanent location for a family holiday. The beach has been voted cleanest beach on a number of occasions, and the local area is very picturesque, with ocean views abounding, and views of mountains and rainforest backdrop if looking west from the high positions on the beachside hills (
Amaroo at Trinity is situated atop the most prominent high location with wonderful views in both directions.
Kewarra Beach
Kewarra Beach Resort is a well-known tropical holiday resort, but is predominately residential. Kewarra is very quiet but tourist facilities are more limited than many of the other beaches.
Clifton Beach
Again mainly residential but has a large shopping centre and some nice eateries. Definitely worth a visit, and the feelingf is more family home / locals than tourist style.
Palm Cove
One of the earlier emerging beach destinations, Palm Cove is well known around the world. The very busy bustling foreshore is paved and very modern, with the many large luxury resorts opening onto the main street and beachfront. It is suited to those seeking a typical well-equipped busy location with many restaurants to choose from. The average price of accommodation in Palm Cove is probably a little higher than most beaches, as the rates charged by the 5 star resort style properties tend to affect the market.
